I’ve spent a good amount of time this morning working on my schedule for all of the NXNE events happening this week. Adding to the official schedule of bands performing, there’s a variety of parties, impromptushowcases and outdoor parties worth looking into. Most will be covered when I post my picks for the festival. This one deserved its own post.
Humble Empire and The MuseBox are pleased to present to you the first ever Live In Bellwoods: The NXNE Picnic Series. Four days of stripped down acoustic afternoon showcases in the lovely Trinity Bellwoods Park, from 2pm-5pm each day (this thurs to sun). And its free. BYOWhatever you’d like, here’s the basic schedule.
Who: MT. Desolation from somewhere in the UK.
What: Piecing together a couple random blog posts and a Last.fm mini bio, I’m able to know that MT. Desolation isan alt-country band lead by songwritersTim Rice-Oxley andJesse Quin fromKeane. Featuring contributions from members of The Killers,Noah and the Whale,The Long Winters andMumford and Sons, this I know is going to be good. Here’s a slow burning tune about the bands’ name and the fact that we’re all just ordinary men.
Song: State Of Our Affairs. Highly recommended for fans of Elbow.
From the “No Art EP“, here’s the opener in Young Galaxy‘s ‘Invisible Republic’. An epic featuring duo Stephen Ramsay’s (guitars, vocals) and Catherine McCandless’ (keyboards, vocals), the band are embarking on a tour withThe Besnard Lakes and stop at NXNE this week. Keep in touch with them, they’ll be releasing a full length album (enginered by Jace Lasek of the Besnard Lakes) very soon.
Actually, think I just saw a press release about that. Stay tuned.
