Jack Milas and Oli Chang, otherwise known as High Highs have released the New single “St. Marie”.
Milas described the process of making “St. Marie”. “We’re both living in different parts of the world at the moment, and this was our first time beginning and finishing a song remotely. We found that the distance lended a certain lightness to the creative process. There were very few emails exchanged, instead we communicated through the music, and relied on pure and immediate expression. Once we reached that point, it was finished. Lyrically, the song is a singular vision of a place that contains all the disparate memories of a relationship with one person. Events that bear no relation to one another are floating in mid air, stuck on top of each other, and all congregate in this one place.”
Last week, I found this track while making my “Trending” playlist for Aux. Refs were moving way up the Hype Machine top 50 and guessing by who was posting about the song, I could instantly tell it was going to be something just right for Indie Music Filter. Refs is the collaboration between producer Zachary Andrew (Black Light Dinner Party, High Highs) and r&b virtuoso Richard Saunders, while “Pain Goes Away” is their first soundcloud upload and one of the most blogged songs of 2015. Check it out.
Did you take any days off this summer, head into the woods to find your local watering hole? Brooklyn-via-Australia duo HIGH HIGHS did, bringing a video camera to capture the dives, backflips and carefree atmosphere of their day. Check out their video for their great cover of “A Real Human Being”, the College feat. Electric Youth song we all fell for from the Drive soundtrack. Grab the song on itunes here.
Today High Highs announce their fall tour with STARS and to celebrate, the Brooklyn via Australia duo is releasing this cover of “A Real Hero” from the Drive soundtrack. This cover was recorded spontaneously between tours at Turning Studios, Sydney and finished at Oli’s apartment in Brooklyn.
The band writes “This cover has been a staple of our live show since we started touring in January. We started playing it purely for fun and we kept hearing from everyone that we had to record it. After the Vampire Weekend tour we flew straight to Sydney to play with Empire of the Sun at the Sydney Opera House. We spent a few days in the studio there where we recorded ‘A Real Hero’ and tracked a new song.”
“A Real Hero” single will be out via Fine Time/Sony in Australia and the band’s own label Never Leave Never Sleep in the US.
