“Wild Country” by Vancouver musician Colyn Cameron (aka Wake Owl), off the Wild Country EP. Shepherded by Cameron’s softly rasped, reedy vocals, Wild Country paints a lush, broad musical landscape that’s at once personal and universal, intimate yet accessible.
Here’s a listen to the song “Gold” from the forthcoming debut EP Wild Country from Vancouver/Portland songwriter Colyn Cameron (aka Wake Owl). He began writing songs around age 16 (he’s 23 now) and draws inspiration for his songs from time spent traveling, studying organic agriculture in England, working on farms in the UK, Germany, Chile, and Canada. Wake Owl has also toured in Canada with Bahamas, Zeus, and The Jezabels, and a number of their own US shows.
For some of you, you’re like “Hey, I know this track?”. Did you watch Grey’s Anatomy last night?
Wake Owl were a band that I almost saw at CMW last week, taking the stage at the Dakota right when I had to leave the venue for another show. I did remember their name this weekend and google landed me on their bandcamp page where their Wild Country EP was streaming. The folk group call Vancouver home and are led by musician Colyn Cameron.
