This past march, Invisible Children and Friends With Both Arms undertook an ambitious goal to film 25 bans while in Austin for SXSW. “The Silver Series” campaign serves as a platform for established, as well as up-and-coming artists to use their music as a tool for education and awareness. They aimed to present artists in unconventional spaces; from tree tops to empty swimming pools- filmed by the Invisible Children art team. The preliminary artists featured include Guards, Sun Airway, Mutual Benefit, Memoryhouse, Jeremy Messersmith, Spirit Family Reunion, Jesse Woods and Bahamas. They’re also proud to partner alongside longtime supporters, La Blogotheque for selected “Takeaway Shows” with Maps & Atlases and Vandaveer.
Here’s a couple of my favourites, Memoryhouse performing “Lately” and a different take on Sun Airway‘s “Put The Days Away”. Enjoy.
The Wailing Wall is the creative brainchild and alter ego of New Yorker Jesse Rifkin. A talented lyricist and musician, his album The Low Hanging Fruit, “delivers cross-genre sounds emanating from the guitar, ukulele, banjo, sitar, trumpet, bass, and piano”. I’ve been streaming the record since I first heard “Bones Become Rainbows”, great stuff, glad to have it on my radar.
“Here As A Ghost” by Lou Canon, shot this past winter in Brooklyn and New York City. She’s scheduled to perform in Toronto at the Supermarket on July 13th with an in-store earlier that day at Criminal Records.
