1993. The year of Whitney, Ace of Base, Cypress Hill, R.E.M – and the year Gabe Goodman was born. I can’t seem to decide what is more impressive; his ripe young age of 20 or the obsession I have for “Midnight Sour’s” magnetism. It breeds the fear induced feeling of knowing that replay button is going to be repeatedly revisited. A relevant testament to soulful-synthy-hip-hop-beats currently filtering around the world.

With lyrics like “Only lovers find each other in the dark”, I comfortably allowed Arcade Fire’s “Antichrist Television Blues” to pop into mind drawing commendable comparisons for Brave Baby‘s keyboard and guitar composition throughout the song.”Lakeside Trust”, taken from their debut album Forty Bells, available now.
We fly passed their unconventional name, grammar and spelling and land on Kelly Zutrau’s pitch-clear voice. “U da best” is simple and lovely, a ‘smiler’ if you will. The trio including Marty Sulkow and Joe Valle are based in Brooklyn, NY. You can hear strong RnB and folk influences too, definitely one to watch.

Dear Jungle Giants, you’ve got something that everybody wants.
I’ve been quietly creeping on Australia’s new offering YesYou for a while now. This talented muso-duo based in Brisbane are still flying with one wing firmly nestled under the radar, but my trusty crystal ball tells me that they will get progressively bigger as the year rolls on. An intoxicatingly addictive song, watch their video for “Amsterdam” below.
