Take a listen to the previously unreleased song “Chariot” by Beach House from the bands’ forthcoming B-Sides and Rarities compilation, out this summer on Sub Pop. The collection features 2 unreleased tracks, as well as the “hidden track” from their 2006 debut, 2010’s “I Do Not Care for the Winter Sun“, and 2014’s “Saturn Song“.
It’s a bit sad to think that this might be the last month I post a monthly playlist on Rdio, as the service has announced its closing. Of the multiple online platforms I use, Rdio was my favourite and will be missed here at Indie Music Filter. Good thing I’m making these playlists on Soundcloud and Spotify as well. Maybe I’ll bring back Youtube too.
This month’s playlist is an eclectic mix featuring some gems (from bands Wild Ones, St. Lucia, Beach House), collaborations (Ra Ra Riot and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam, j.viewz and Milosh, RAC and Filous) and covers (Great Good Fine OK and Panama Wedding doing “Easy Lover”).
Beach House offer vocal delicacy with extra layers of lo-fi. The Baltimore duo is insanely captivating, and I’m wondering why it took me so long to discover them. Their most recent album, Thank Your Lucky Stars, is an experience in and of itself as Victoria Legrand’s celestial voice takes you to a whole other planet.
Check out this track, and then find your way to the entire album.
“New Year” by Beach House, made from footage from the bands’ recording session at Sonic Ranch Studios, Tornillo, Texas. From the band: “It’s more of a home video thing, not a music video…….we just thought these moments and the memories they involve fit this song. SUPER SPECIAL thanks to our wonderful assistant engineer for the session Manuel Calderon (the guy with the tequila), who filmed all the time lapses and a lot of the studio footage.”
