New Music From A Lull / “Pot Luck”

Please forgive the extended break on the site.  Canada celebrated Simcoe Day yesterday, I felt like staying away from the blog and putting all my work aside.

While I had stepped away, I got an e-mail from A Lull‘s camp, with a new track to share called “Pot Luck”.  The song comes from Confetti Reprise; a sort of outtakes EP from the bands’ full length album Confetti.   When making the album, they choose only those songs that they were thoroughly satisfied with – and then realized that the album was 20 minutes too long. Emphasizing song flow over all other factors, four songs were eventually removed but Confetti Reprise gathers these extra pieces in one place.  Look for that EP out Aug. 16th.

Since first hearing this new song by Chicago’s A Lull on the forkcast today, I’ve had this crazy urge to want to see this band live.  ”Water & Beasts” is filled to the brim with percussion, instrumentation and melodies with a killer ending.  Looks like we’ve got another standout here (along with “Weapons For War”) on their upcoming debut LP Confetti (out next week on Mush Records).  Stream below, download it at P4k.

‘Confetti’ is turning out to be my song of the week here.

Since scouring my inbox for new tips this morning, I’ve had a window open on the myspace page of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s 1,2,3, streaming each of the two songs in their player. The band consists oflong time friends Nic Snyder (vox, guitar & keys) and Josh Sickels (drums), originally started as a side project from the power punk outfit The Takeover UK. Since starting together just months ago, they’ve put out a7″ single through Brooklyn label Ooh La La and next month they’ll release their debut UK single, ‘Going Away Party’, Chess Club. Inspired byMercury-era Rod Stewart, Neil Young, Bacharach and his all-time favourite, Roy Orbison, Snyder channels a whole world of styles into his writings, singing with a nostalgic soulful brood.
