I keep thinking about how much I liked his set this year at SXSW. Made me really want to get my ears on his upcoming record Moondagger, which so far, I’ve only heard pieces of. We posted the cascading popper Parallelogram a little while back. As well, he let us have Spritle, to try and tie us over until the June 23rd release of his full-band debut.
Today, I’ve got a pretty cool introspective on this aritst (aka Randolph Chabot), who has been making albums since he was 12 years old and now at 22, Detroit’s Deastro is ready for his close-up. Filmed by Chicago-based photographer/videographer James P. Morse.
I had no idea the sun had my number all day. picture my forearms and forehead, red as a lobster. well, you gotta start that base sometime?
like Marching Band and Deastro to start the day. The Canadian Blast was both heavily Canadian and definitely a blast. Strong sets by Arkells, Two Hours Traffic. highlights later that night were The Temper Trap’s set. go see this band if you get the chance.
Better updates down the road, for now, I’ve gotta figure out how to see music and stay out of the sun.
Let me introduce you to the multiple musical personalities of Randolph J. Chabot, an electronic basement multi-instrumentalist from Detroit who goes by the names Our Brother The Megazord and Deastro. Why the dual band/artist name? Apparently, he’d get bored with just one.
Our Brother The Megazord is meant to be heard at a dance party, and is an outlet for Randolph to run with how happy music makes him.
Check out An Empty Park by Our Brother The Megazord off the full length Time The Teenage Twister. Makes me think of Andrew Bird and Beck collaborating on this one.
Deastro is meant to be more like drunken fist boxing, touching more into life’s casual dips into sadness with optimism.
Check Out Michael the Lone Archer by Deastro off The Young Planets. What drew me into this song was the M83-esque wall of sound that backs up the chorus.
Regardless of which name appears, I’m a fan. A songwriter that knows how to make his basement sound good.
