Ellie Goulding

Too many people in Toronto woke up today in a bad mood. The woman complaining about her bus arriving late. The scowls from the waiting line at Time Hortons. The unhappy faces in the cold on Bloor St.

People might have been happier if they had started their day listening to Ellie Goulding.

I’ve been on her myspace page for the last 30 mins of so and I’m loving her music. She’s a 21 year old songwriter who was born in Hereford, but grew up in Powys, Wales. Armed with a guitar and sweet lyrical honesty, she’s written some demos that would fit on a mixtape between Imogen Heap and Regina Spektor (see The End and The Writer on her myspace). The newer songs seem to be a different direction, something more eletronic with the help of the producers she’s working with. Either way, she does both directions justice.

I was tipped to this artist by reading the Neon Gold Beat Company‘s blog (they posted a remix of Wish I Stayed by Frankmusik). Its a solid track, but I’ve got a new one for you. Straight from the Ellie Goulding team I give you Guns and Horses, the song that’ll take you into the weekend.
