Currently Listening To: MOSCOW METRO

Fans of The National, Glavegas, or The Darcys are probably going to want to take a listen to Irish post punk band M O S C O W  M E T R O.  They passed along a link to their Spirit Of A City EP, which is set to be released next month.

Meeting through mutual friends, the quartet’s early rehearsals took place in a storage warehouse; a ten foot by ten foot metal box that shook with sound vibrations, leading to the inspiration for the name M O S C O W  M E T R O.   Their music deals with the subjects we don’t talk about, the things we bury deep.   Taking inspiration from every aspect of life including films, writers, art; the band’s influences are diverse, from The National to Blade Runner, Walt Whitman to The Cure.

Spirit Of A City explores several dark themes; feeling trapped by your situation, death and loss, social tensions and escaping the aftermath of a failed relationship.  Contrasting hope and fear; Spirit Of A City is dark and brooding yet also elated and uplifting.

Here’s the video for “Spirit of a City” but please take note of my favourite, the 2nd track, “Future Fades”.

AWESOME.
