VIDEO: “Aboard My Train” by Kevin Morby
Here’s “Aboard My Train” from folk-rocker Kevin Morby, off the upcoming release of City Music. The self-directed video has Morby writing the names of people who affected his life on a mirror.
“I wanted to make a video at home, something sort of lo-fi,” Morby explains. “I kind of missed the challenge of having to come up with something creative with little to no money … Doing what I do, people are constantly coming in and out of your life. The moment you think you’ll never see someone again, they reappear and that’s what this song is about starting with my first best friend, Pablo, who lived on my street in Tulsa, and was my first memory of having a best friend.”

March is statistically such a great time for new music, as you can tell by the size of this months’ group. I had to trim a few from the list, but what’s left, is the cream of the crop from the blogs last month. Tons of new discoveries including Romes, WILDES, Rostam, Teleman plus new tracks from IMF faves Anna Of The North, M83, Oyster Kids, Still Parade and Great Good Fine OK.

VIDEO: “Dorothy” by Kevin Morby
This week, Kevin Morby shared the video for “Dorothy”, the second single and video off his forthcoming album, Singing Saw (out 4/15 on Dead Oceans). The song, a self-reflection of Kevin’s life as a musician on the road, is named after his guitar, which is in turn named after his grandmother. “Being a musician, when you find yourself at home and off of tour, all the people, places and things you encountered on tour seem like some wild dream,” says Kevin. “Dorothy, my guitar, represents the people I’ve encountered and experiences I’ve had over the past 7 years of touring, because she has always been there with me.”
The video is a beautiful representation of this sentiment. It follows Morby as he traverses and passes by seemingly surreal situations, the fever dream that is the road for him and so many other musicians like him.
Kevin just finished a pretty successful trip to SXSW last week and heads back on the road in May (dates below).
