October is always one of the best months for new music. Like previous years, instead of scrambling to find enough songs to round out a playlist, I was forced to cut a few songs that I featured this month on the blog, but just didn’t fit right on the playlist. The result though is a fantastic mix that I hope you enjoy. Whether you prefer to listen via Soundcloud, Rdio or Spotify, I’ve got some brand new tunes from RAC, Niki & The Dove, Phoria, Hot Chip and many more.
You might have thought that I’d done away with the Friday #Trending series, as its been a few weeks since I posted it on Indie Music Filter. I merely took a break from posting it. It’s all about the songs that people are buzzing about. Some weeks, I just can’t find enough that I think are awesome to put together in a the post (that I wouldn’t just post individually on the blog).
Today, I’m overflowing with new tunes, so here’s my attempt at giving a little bit of attention to each track I think you should hear.
Anna of the North is the collaborative dream pop project between Norwegian vocalist Anna Lotterud and New Zealand-born producer Brady Daniell-Smith. Last year blogs started picking up the tune “Sway“, but “The Dreamer” is the song I’d recommend you start with.
Tweaks (formerly Pin Tweaks) are a two piece comprising Aman Singh and Johnny Drain, who together make enigmatic pop music for the nocturnal hours. “Sisters” is their first single (from the forthcoming EP of the same name) and recounts a (young woman’s) life of material privilege, institutionalization and lovelessness. Unintentionally, the Jake Hopewell directed video arrives just in time for Halloween. Watch, you’ll see what I mean.
This new Elephant Stone track is incredibly addictive. Take a listen to their single “The Devil’s Shelter” featuring Alex Maas of The Black Angels.
For fans of Jungle or Hot Chip, start dancing to the 70’s/80’s electro nostalgia of UK artist MakeLove in “Dive In”.
