It was a bit of a slower month for new music, but these “best of August” playlists came together quite nicely. Whether you prefer to listen via Soundcloud, Rdio or Spotify, I’ve got some brand new tunes featuring the return of Half Moon Run, GEMS and Saintseneca, new tunes from CHVRCHES and Foals plus a couple surprises in Good Field, Steven A. Clark and Zibra.
For fans of London Grammar, take a listen to “Sleeping Alone” from 25-year-old Toronto singer/songwriter Mieke. The song comes from an EP (stream here) that had Don Kerr and Howie Beck (Feist, Hayden, Bahamas) helping get the songs on tape, in many instances recording vocals in Don’s dining room and the instruments in his basement. That allowed Mieke to fully connect with the feeling she had wherever she wrote the songs- in Toronto, in Tokyo, in her small town high school, or in London- and to go back to that moment.
Take a look.
