“Higher Love” from my favourite Glaswegian band right now, Prides. Look for this single to be released on March 23rd via Island.

This will be the last post of 2014 for me and I’ve gotta say that it’s been a pretty awesome year for new music. Looking back through all our posts here, I wanted to make a list of artists and bands who really turned my head and caught my ear. Here’s my list of 7, in no particular order and classified as “Favourite New Artist Of 2014″ only by when I first discovered who they were, regardless of how they existed before 2014.
Take a listen and have a Happy New Year. See you in 2015.

It’s been another great year for new music, 2014 did not disappoint at all. This post is always my favourite one to put together, the problem is always trying to keep the number of songs down. I settled on 50 tracks (listed here in playlist order, not a ranking) that rocked my year, take a look below and agree, disagree, discover of just hit play. As usual, I did my best to make these playlists on soundcloud, spotify, rdio, youtube and this year on Dropmark (which I use for saving videos). For those who like to watch your playlists, try out my collection.

This is the kind of thing I’m talking about when I say that I’m looking for bands that are doing something different. Bands take notice, this is a great way to get on a blog (especially in December, when it’s all about year end content).
Glasgow’s Prides recently recorded themselves at The Old Mill Studios performing a mixtape of their favourite tracks, including Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy”, Ryn Weaver’s “OctaHate”, and Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” (to name a few). Here’s a note from the band:
2014 has been a year where we spent a lot of time in a van listening to the radio. We decided to wrap up the year with one of our mixtapes of our favorite tracks, but this time we decided to play it live. These are the songs that we sang on the way back from shows, played incessantly whilst out on tour, and cranked when they came on the radio. Hope you enjoy!
When I look back on 2014, I’m really glad that Prides popped up on my radar.
