‘The Suburbs’ Is Sprawling

Just a couple things I’ve seen about The Arcade Fire recently:

-They’ll be performing tonight at Madison Square Gardens, but also to the world as we all tune into the live webcast happening at www.youtube.com/arcadefirevevo, as part of Arcade Fire Unstaged (brought to you by American Express/Vevo/Youtube) and directed by Terry Gilliam. Watch the trailer, looks awesome.

-That youtube channel has also posted so great videos of the band practicing, performing and goofing around. Take note of this one of ‘My Body Is A Cage‘ in rehearsal.

-Through this website, you can contribute to the bands’ backdrop on stage with photos of your suburb.

-Finally, as pointed out at The Playlist, Terry Gilliam has talked about apossibilityof future collaborations between him and the band in the future. With the way the Arcade Fire have set up their digital format, I’m wondering if we’re going to start getting Gilliam directed video clips sent directly to our music files. I’d love that.

A Look At The Suburbs: Arcade Fire at Danforth Music Hall

What a show.
I’m sitting here revelling in the awesomeness of last night’s Arcade Fire show at the Danforth Music Hall. The show was one of two in Toronto this weekend (the other to happen tonight) and one of a handful of surprise shows that have happened this week in Ontario and Quebec. The band have been taking these shows as an opportunity to test out the new material from the bands upcoming release “The Suburbs”.
As with anyArcade Fire show I’ve seen, or ever heard of in the past, the band were a tour-de-force on stage. They led with four new songs within the first five (including the singles we’ve been hearing the net in the title track ‘The Suburbs’ and ‘Month Of May’) but the best new material shined in a pocket near the end of the set, a three song group of ‘Modern Man’, ‘Rococo’ and ‘We Used To Wait’. I’d choose ‘Modern Man’ as a reason in itself to grab the bands’ upcoming album. It featured the band playing outside of their traditional four on the floor rhythm and a catchy, memorable chorus.
Finishing the show by whipping the crowd into a frenzy, the band powered through Funeral faves ‘Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)’ and ‘Rebellion (Lies)’. If that wasn’t enough to finish with, the band came back to encore with Neon Bible‘s ‘Keep The Car Running’ and the completely compelling ‘Wake Up’.
I’d say I wasextremelysatisfied with the new body work I heard last night. As we were all judging the new against the bar set by their previous albums, I’m guessing we’ll watch a many few of these songs from The Suburbs slowly become classic, just that way we did when Neon Bibles’ winners revealed themselves.

Arcade Fire to Release “The Suburbs”

Look for The Arcade Fire‘s new album “The Suburbs” on August 3rd (via Merge Records). You can now pre-order it on CD or double-LP at the Merge store and you’ll get copies of the songs “Month Of May” and “The Suburbs” for download. The album was written, arranged, performed and produced by The Arcade Fire and co-produced by Markus Dravs, while recorded around Montreal and New York over the past two years.

Also, a double A side, limited edition 12 will be available in record stores from May 27th 2010, featuring the tracks The Suburbs and Month of May.

Arcade Fire Announce Toronto Show

The Arcade Fire have just announced that they’ll be performing on Olympic Island on Saturday, Aug. 14th in Toronto. Tickets go on sale at noon this friday, May 28th and will cost $47 plus a one dollar donation to the Partners in Health charity, as well as ferry tickets for the trip and a facility fee).

No word yet on openers but will keep you updated as soon as we hear anything.
