Washed Out has released his first new music in 4 years this morning with the brand new single and mind bending video for “Get Lost”, out now via Stones Throw. “Get Lost” video directed by Harvey Benschoter, audio is produced by Washed Out and mixed by Cole MGN.
Hey friends,
Chris Budd here from the desk of Indie Music Filter, officially marking this day as the 10th anniversary of when I started this blog. This hobby-turned-monster-of-an-experiment has been quite a ride (so far) and I still kind of feel like I’m only just getting started.
I took a long look back through the archives, wondering if there would be a way to sum up 10 years in a playlist. Would I be able to keep it under 100 songs? Well, here’s my best attempt in this “Indie Music Filter Turns 10” playlist.
I made a massive list of my favourite artists and songs; those heavily covered in the 4,900 posts on this site since 2006. A list of 350 songs became 192 and after a few more passes, I hit the 100 mark. These songs leftover were the ones that still to this day move me, the ones that have left that lasting mark.
Also, I had no intention of spending days crafting the perfect order (and didn’t want to rank the songs in order of which I liked the best), so I randomized the order. Et voila!
But before you go hitting play, I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the people that have contributed to this blog over the years, as well as a huge thank you to you, the music fan. What keeps me going is when I hear back from someone about a great song they heard on my blog, a playlist they shared with friends, or a new artist they became a fan of, because of something that was posted here. Thanks to those that RT, Like and share in helping me get the word out.
Alright, let’s let the music speak for itself. Enjoy!
Chris

“Weightless” by Washed Out from his album, Paracosm. Directed by David Altobelli (M83, Sia, Conor Oberst), the mini film, presents a “gorgeous tale” of unrequited love with dreamlike sequences throughout. Altobelli says of the video, “Unrequited love is a universal emotion. In this case, the emotions are heightened because there exists yet another wall between the protagonist and the object of his affection. It’s heartbreaking and inevitable, but it’s also just part of being a kid in love”.
I was pretty excited when I heard that Field Trip was happening again this summer, along with the stunning lineup they’ve put together for this year. It was amazing to see IMF faves Half Moon Run, Lord Huron, Kevin Drew, The Darcys, Broken Social Scene, Constantines, CHVRCHES, Washed Out and Lowell all included in the 2 day festival at Toronto’s Fork York.
My heart absolutely sank when I realized what weekend this show was happening. The June 7th-8th weekend is again not only Field Trip, but the same weekend for the Ride To Conquer Cancer. Like last year, I’ve committed to riding 200+kms from Toronto to Hamilton, then Hamilton to Niagara for Cancer research. And I’ve done the math, there’s really no way for me to do both of these events that weekend.
If I can’t go to Field Trip, I might as well get some of you guys in. Here’s how.
Care of Arts & Crafts, I’ve got one pair of weekend passes to give away to one lucky winner. There is only one way to enter. Email me at chris AT indiemusicfilter.com with “FIELD TRIP” in the subject line with your full name in the body. Deadline is MONDAY, JUNE 2ND at NOON (EST). I’ll notify the winner that day.
Oh, and if you’d like to sponsor me in my ride, you can donate here.
About Field Trip:
Field Trip began in 2013 as a celebration of Arts & Crafts’ 10th anniversary, but in their second year their sights are squarely on establishing it as a world-class, two-day boutique music and arts festival situated in the heart of downtown Toronto. The 2014 edition will unfold across two days, programmed far beyond music to focus on highlighting the community’s best culinary offerings, as well as collaborative explorations on the themes of art, photography, technology, fashion and more.
