In My Ears: New Young Empires, Updates To Best Of Lists and Best New Blogs

Thought I’d save a little time here and post everything in one.

From my scouring of the blogs, I’ve seen that Young Empires have a new demo floating around called “Earth Plates Shifting”. A little more on the downtempo side of what we’ve heard from the band, but an enjoyable listen. Head to Tympanogram to get the track.

I added a few more links to the best of 2010 lists post I put together. New additions are Zach That’s Top 25 (from We Listen For You), Rawkblog’s best songs of the year and The OCMD’s Top 25 Albums.

And speaking of lists/polls, The Recommender recently conducted a “Best Music Blog” poll, voted by bloggers only. The results are here, congrats to Sunset In The Rearview.

Elsewhere, I noticed that Pretty Much Amazing has a remix of “Punching In A Dream” by NZ band The Naked and Famous by Does It Offend You, Yeah? Big fan of both bands, but think this version isn’t greater than the sum of its parts.

BlogTO recently compiled a list of the top 10 songs from Toronto bands in 2010. Young Empires, show up on that list as well, bringing this post full circle.

The Pass – “Vultures” (Guess The Blogs Contest Results)

I’m having an ‘I Love The Internet’ moment.

A little while ago, a music blog called We Listen For You teamed up with Louisville, Kentucky band The Pass for a little experiment/contest about music blogs. They put together a music video of an epic house party, depicting and acting out clues to depict 39 different music blogs. Readers of the blog and viewers of the video were to guess as many music blogs in the video as they could. In WLFY’s words “…the video was 90% a contest and 10% trying to do a visual representation of how a song (from the needle drop) travels over the Internet through various music blogs, onto hype machine, and off to the listener”.

When I initially saw the video, I tried to guess a lot of the blogs, but couldn’t get past 20. It wasn’t that I didn’t know the blogs in the video (as the results listed are essentially part of my daily reading), I wasn’t thinking hard enough.

I also didn’t clue into the fact that I was depicted in the video. 0:44 in the sink as someone who “sifts water through tapes and cds”.

Totally flattered.
