You Know Who

To finish off the Toronto Film Fest last week, I dropped by the Drake Hotel to catch a great lineup of Toronto bands. Without intending to take away from two great openers that night (The Coast and The Diableros), I’m writing this post about the latest incarnation of By Divine Right. We saw Jose Contreras (lead vocals/guitar) backed by 75% of The Meligrove Band.
Which is something you don’t see very often.

Fresh from the road, one couldn’t ask for a tighter band to help you satisfy an excited crowd. I know that it didn’t take many practices for these artists to get it down together. They have worked together before, Jose acting as a producer for some tracks of the Meligrove’s most recent album on V2.

It was the first song on the encore that really got me. Some track I’ve never heard before, but then again not many people have. Its a song that Contreras wrote while on the road (2004 North American tour) and finished this spring. Its about falling short of yourself, being lonely and wanting to go home.

Please, enjoy the song ‘You Know Who‘ by By Divine Right. Its beautiful.
