It’s tough not to get excited for an album coming out later this year when you hear a first listen like Youth Lagoon‘s “The Knower”. Look for this and others off “Savage Hills Ballroom”, in Stores: September 25, 2015.
When I get e-mails from Oakland, CA’s Jackson Phillips, it feels like a breath of fresh air, even before hitting play on the soundcloud link. Here’s our second listen to Day Wave in “We Try But We Don’t Fit In” (following the incredibly debut “Drag“), which today sounded like Youth Lagoon mixed with a generous dose of Generationals.

Last month we heard our first listen to Youth Lagoon’s new record in the song “Dropla”. Showing a slight divergence away from the songs off his debut The Year Of Hibernation, I eventually got hooked on his new sound. Although, now I’m into my second listen in “Mute”, and I’m feeling like this track is taking me slightly out of my comfort zone. Its not that its a 6 minute song, more so the carnival sounding effect through the song and the parts filled with overwhelming noise. Maybe this will change the more I listen, but what do you think?
