Guest Post: Zach Pollakoff (Grey Group / Twosyllable Records)

What are you listening to?

Well, as a music supervisor and music superlistener, it’s hard to pick just a few things, but THIS week, I’ve been into a record from new-to-the-scene Montreal post-punk youngsters, Ought, called “More Than Any Other Day” out this week on Constellation Records.  Check out the killer and sometimes-whacky single “Habit”.

Also new and in constant rotation is a record from Brooklyn veterans and label owners, Woods – “With Light and With Love” (Woodsist), a stellar and soulful return from Kelis–yes THAT Kelis!–“Food” (Ninjatune), and my favorite of the year, so far, War on Drugs – “Lost in the Dream” (Secretly Canadian).

Plus, I always have a few new-to-me old records on deck.  Currently I am schooling myself on the brilliance of Gram Parsons via The Flying Burrito Brothers – “Gilded Palace of Sin”, loving the beautiful early career of Bonnie Raitt on “Give it Up” and, in anticipation of the big Luaka Bop/RBMA night at BAM, I am ALL about weirdo African electronic music pioneer, William Onyeabor and his record “Atomic Bomb”.
