Amiina

I’ve been an inconsistent blogger in the last couple of days…. and I’ve noticed that a lot of the time when bloggers don’t post, they apologize. I don’t think I’m going to this time. I do have an excuse though, I turned 29 this weekend in the best possible way: hosting a dodgeball tournament and drinking more than I ever have before. Along with my liver (Jeff), my ears had asked for some days off.

I think I can get something out today. Its about band I was listening to a lot last week, Amiina from Reykjavik, Iceland.

Amiina is a four-woman, string-based multi-instrumental group that you might have come across while reading about Sigur Ros‘s last tour. Amiina opened for the band and worked double duty as their string section. Their latest offering Seoul, on The Worker’s Institute, is a three song EP that explores the bands ability in creating lush instrumental soundscapes using laptops, xylophones and saws. A full length is expected in the spring. Perfect time and place to listen? Staring out a window while its snowing (which it is now here in Toronto).

Head over to their myspace page to take a listen. As well, the band recently performed live on KEXP, take a listen here.
