Every year I look forward to this weekend of the Harbourfront Centre’s Music Programming Schedule. This year,Smirnoff Beats, Breaks & Culture (BBC) presented by NOW Magazine will be presenting Canada’s top cutting-edge icons that have made an international impact as well as some global-to-local musical pairings.
Lets list the pros:
-Friday night’s lineup. UK hip hop soul band The Heavy at 8pm. The Slew (Kid Koala with 6 turntables plus ex-Wolfmother’srhythmsection) at 9:30pm. Also, a performance by live community builder (via music and video) Rich Aucoin at midnight.
-The mainstage is an outdoor venue right on the water. In previous years I’ve watched bands perform while tall ships float by behind me.
-Its Free
Cons:
-It could rain tomorrow. Hopefully it does to cool Toronto down, but lets have that over with in the morning, okay?

Beats, Breaks & Culture (BBC) has grown and evolved with each passing festival. Its evolution is adjacent to the growth of contemporary, left-of-centre music genres which have expanded beyond the traditional electronic music format. BBC takes on the “shuffle” philosophy of the iPod which incorporates many different musical tastes with endless possibilities. With a focus on global to local we will be presenting Canada’s top cutting-edge icons that have made an international impact as well as some global to local musical pairings. In addition, we will continue the expansion of our family, dance and film presentations through new, innovative, out-of-the-box programming.
Haven’t heard from Kill The Lights in quite a while, @JimQBiM has a new track called “Paint your eyes, Susan” http://goo.gl/Sj8Q def recmndd
