Its NXNE week here in Toronto, which in previous years would only really begin in the middle of the week. But, like other music festivals, NXNE has added an offical Interactice element called NXNEi. Bridging the gap between independent creators and interactivity, NXNEi looks into technology and social media as tools to boost ingenuity while enhancing marketing and business. Starting today and running until Wednesday the 16th, NXNEi tackles the issues with in-depth half-day workshops. From Facebook to Twitter, monetizing digital content to DIY marketing, to using Flash and exploring the latest in web skills, its a great compliment to the Music and Film festival that NXNE has become.
There are two panels today (which I’m missing), but I’ll be down there tomorrow, getting a feel for it. Stay tuned.
I’ve been meaning to start a column on Indie Music Filter to feature the art of gig poster designers. Still trying to get a good name for it, but for now, we’ll go with Press For Prints. My inaugural post will be on Toronto’s Doublenaut.
I think the first Doublenaut poster I saw was their 2006 design for The Broken Social Scene summer island concert in Toronto. Since then, its hard not to see their work in and around Toronto music institutions. There’s always an uncomplicated look to their work and striking good uses of colour.
Take a minute to check out their store, I included a couple of my favorite designs below.
