Charlemagne

I was never good at remembering details and I never excelled at history in school. So I had to look up what the word Charlemagne meant. Apparently, some dude who conquered half of Europe. Charles the Great they called him, or the Father of Europe. Now he shares his name with two bands that I’ve found on the net. One band from Philly who are really amazing at boring me. Another, a great outfit from Hamilton and the focus of this post.

Was again turned on to a solid band by an Easy Tiger who had brought them to play here in Toronto a couple weeks ago. I’ve heard their new EP (Deadlines, released on Jan. 22nd) and its solid all the way through. They pull off a mix of soulful rock with heaps of raw energy shovelled on top. If you like the Constantines, you’re probably going to like these guys as well. Good fit on a bill with Tokyo Police Club or Matt Mays, as the band have added those opening slots to their resume.
I love the fact that under the ‘homepage’ link on their myspace page, it links to Sting. I wonder if he links back…?

Check out the title track off Deadlines. Really makes me want to see five kids pull this song off live…. wait! Toronto show at the Shoe on Valentine’s day (as well as other Ontario dates in the coming weeks). Another track for ya? Ingest Oh, The Boss Is Coming.
