I’ve had the song This Harness Can’t Ride Anything floating around in my head since I posted a link to it last sunday. The band is Chin Up Chin Up. They hail from Chicago, taking its name for maintaining optimism and determination.
If you take a look around their site, you’ll read the sad story about how the band lost a band member and friend (bassist Chris Saathoff) to a hit-and-run accident while walking home from a bar. Eventually, the band decided to finish their 2004 record (We Should Have Never Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers) by piecing together Chris’s baselines from previous recordings of band practices.
The newest record is 2006’s This Harness Can?t Ride Anything, out on Suicide Squeeze. Get into thier avant-pop sound; scratchy vocals, complementary guitar lines and off-beat hi-hat heavy drum beats.? The band is currently on tour with label mates Minus The Bear.
This quote is straight from their homepage and it really rang well with me. Listening to the band “…you’ll discover the beauty of old souls dancing like adolescents, their hearts bruised but beating stronger and louder each day.”
Here’s an oldie, but a goodie. Collide off their S/T EP. More tracks on their myspace page (check out Falcons and Vulcans).
