Guest Playlist: Stone Cold Fox

We love finding new music, sometimes the music finds you. These songs all inspired us to break out of the winter slump and push towards brighter days. – Stone Cold Fox

1. Mitski – “First Love/Late Spring”
Utterly in love with this track, it unfolds itself in such an unexpected and refreshing way. Goes through so many movements and emotions and the lyrics kill me.

2. Japanese Breakfast – “The Woman That Loves You”
We love all things Philly and Japanese Breakfast is an artist that has us jamming out frequently. Love the flow of this song. Her voice is so etherial and the vintage synths that make up the core of the song are just perfect.

3. Kanye West – “Ultralight Beam”
No matter your stance on Kanye, there’s no denying this is a great song. Droning synths with giant choral arrangements and the sparse production elements make this a constant on my roster. It just gives me a burst of energy and inspiration, just like coming out of hibernation from winter.

4. Young the Giant – “Something to Believe In”
Glad to hear some new tunes from these boys. This song is just pure indie goodness. Perfect for chilling in the park with friends drinking all the wine.

5. Denny – “Bloom”
The title of this track is very fitting, as it plays on you feeling like you’re shedding those winter blues. The drums are so savage and make you walk with maybe a little more swag than you normally would. Definitely on heavy rotation.

6. Thao & The Get Down Stay Down – “Astonished Man”
This is one of my favorite albums this year, and the opening track is so captivating. St. Vincent meets Lucius to form a perfect spring jammer.

7. The Regrettes – “Bronze”
Glad to hear punk isn’t dead. Saw these kids at SXSW this year, and their sound is just perfect for shaking off the winter blues. Angsty teen frustrations in a So Cal punk blanket. A little lo fi goodness to shake you outta the carb laden coma we call winter.

8. Massive Attack ft. Azekel – “Ritual Spirit”
This is on our late night tour van playlist when we are on the road as of late. The melody unfolds so gently and just reminds me of a flower beginning to bloom in the spring sun. We’re hoping M.A. hit us with a full length soon cause we can’t wait!

9. Bombay Bicycle Club – “Carry Me”
Love the cadence of this song. BBC are a staple for us and we can’t help but feel rejuvenated when they come on.

10. Sam Cohen – “Let The Mountain Come to You”
We’re huge Yellowbirds fans and love Sam Cohen. This song just came out, it’s amazing, so fresh and the music video is also fantastic!
