Gypsy & the Cat push forcefully into the synth-spangled future with their latest single “Life”, from their impending third album Virtual Islands, out Friday 5 August.

Initially much more sombre in mood than the album’s previous singles “Inside Your Mind” & “I Just Wanna Be Somebody Else“, “Life” nevertheless follows along the same theme: self-determination through independence, despite isolation. The result is defiant and bold, with Gypsy & the Cat deftly exploring their capacity for light and shade.

Indeed, frontman Xavier Bacash is “the most proud of this track“. Bacash also asserts that Japan’s influence (where much of Virtual Islands was conceived) is the most evident in “Life”.
