This song hasn’t left my head all week.
Take a listen to “A Long Time Ago” from acclaimed songwriter Kalle Mattson, off his Avalanche EP (set for release August 21st via HOME Music Co). “I wrote A Long Time Ago really quickly the night before a session and I think it really encapsulates a lot of the themes on this new EP; anxiety, nostalgia, the past, the future,” Mattson says of the new track. “The production is probably one of the biggest departures in one of my songs ever. I had this delayed hip hop beat in my head the entire time in the studio and I sort of built the song around that, acoustic guitars and a ton of different synths, which is really a first for me. And yes, if you were wondering, that is me singing.”
Avalanche was produced by Colin Munroe (Sky Ferreira, Kendrick Lamar), mixed by Alex Aldi (Passion Pit) and engineered by Marcus Paquin (The National, Local Natives). The EP was written over the course of March 2015 and picks up where Mattson’s previous full length, Someday, The Moon Will Be Gold, left off.
