Thanks to IGIF for the heads up about Eagle*Seagull.
I’m going to be just the messenger on this one..
Because..
I can’t put it better than Paper Garden Records (the band’s label) in saying ‘the band takes the New York rock scene of recent days, packs it up, and heads west to their roots- making the sound their own with bittersweet melodies, a broken voice, and the plaintive calling of their instruments’.
Check out their strongest tune ‘Photograph’. Not to be confused with….
They’ll be in Toronto on Aug. 24th at the Drake. i think??
If you caught Wolf Parade when they were touring last year, you might have caught a high energy set from Montreal’s Think About Life. They’re a three-piece dance-party band that make ever effort to get you on your feet.
I’ve heard Paul Cries. What a great tune. Something like TV on the Radio fronted by Julian Casablancas (Strokes). (Their myspace page has some other tracks as well).
The Harbourfront Centre in Toronto has booked them this summer for their Indie Unlimited festival (Aug. 24th-26th), so go and check them out.
I got a double e-mail blast from Addvice the other day about a band they are working with from Vancouver. They are Lions In The Street.
The name is taken from a Doors song, but you’d swear it would have been a Stones or Skynard tune. This band is reinventing 70’s rock for the kids of now. Kind of like how Matt Mays is introducing kids to Tom Petty.
There are some really nice songs here. So go up north, sit on a dock, drink cans of beer and check out:
-Lady Blue. Sounds kind of like Tuesday’s Gone.
-Already Gone. Great rock tune, should have been on Hot Rocks.
-Feels Like A Long Time. My favorite, great solo/outro at the end.
On a side note, and speaking of Tom Petty, has anyone heard this mashup yet of Dani California (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and Mary Jane’s Last Dance by Petty. wow. pretty similar.
