Chicago x 12 video by Rogue Wave
I didn’t come out to see them (or reseda…) this past weekend on the Toronto island. They opened for Stars and DCFC with Young Galaxy, would have been a good show.

Who : Wintersleep from Halifax.
What : Don’t really think this show is part of the NXNE festival, because I couldn’t find Wintersleep on the schedule. But, according to their myspace page, their doing a free show this Friday (June 13th), Yonge and Dundas Square, 3:30pm. Here’s a live version of their radio hit, sound isn’t the greatest (its a little distorted a parts).
Song : Weighty Ghost (Live on the Verge) , care of Exclaim! .
Who : Ladyhawk from Vancouver.
What : Wrote a while back about this band, but have still never managed to catch them live. You can kind of imagine how raw and rye-soaked rock their live show would be just by listening to songs of their LP Shots . They play at Dundas Square, Friday June 13th at 6pm and then again at the SIRIUS/CBC Radio 3 showcase at the Horseshoe Tavern (they go on at 2am).
Song : S.T.H.D .
I had someone ask me about my Indie Music Filter mix compilations yesterday. Seems as if its been quite a while since I’ve put one together. Well, I’ve never done a summer mix, and I must admit I was inspired to start thinking about this since seeing/hearing the Urban Outfitters mix. I promise, as soon as I make it through NXNE in one piece, I’ll get to it.
Here’s a song that could work for it. By a band called Bikini (the name fits with the summer theme). Aaron Aujla and Johnny Penn are the producers behind the moniker, Penn’s hanging out with Wolf Parade at McGill, Aujla’s living in Queen West in Toronto painting pictures of Red Bull cans.
Check out this one. Here’s I Remember Being Young. Head to their myspace page to download a version of Feist’s 1234.

‘A kiss with a fist is better than none‘. Really? Are we talking a kiss on the lips here?
This is the new video for 21 year-old Londoner Florence Welch, known as Florence and the Machine. People are talking quite a bit about her; (NME’s #1 act to see this summer and best new act of SXSW ’08, write-ups in Nylon, Q). Look for her debut single (in the USA, check Iamsound) with the song above (Kiss With A Fist) and an amazing cover of the Cold War Kids song ‘Hospital Beds‘.
