Do’s and Don’ts of Covers (Contest)

While thinking about the Whisky Rocks Covers competition I’m helping get the word out about, I was trying to list what were my Do’s and Don’ts of recording a great cover song.  Here’s a couple notes, not definitive answers, but my humble opinion.

DOs:

-Make your cover completely different that the original, something that people might even think is your own song

-Spend time and resources on producing a quality recording

-Pick a song that you’re capable of performing/singing

DON’Ts:

-Make it a carbon copy of the original

-Translate the lyrics incorrectly.  We’ve all seen this before, youtube it.
