Field Trip Discovery Series (feat. River Tiber)

I was bummed out recently when I heard The Field Trip Music & Arts Festival would be happening this year (again) on a weekend that I’ll be out of town for.  Last year, the festival had their inaugural event on June 8th at Fort York in Toronto.  I spent a good part of that day riding my bike to Hamilton as part of the Ride To Conquer Cancer.  I’ve committed to the ride again this year and it seems like both events don’t want to switch weekends, so I’m unfortunately going to miss year two of the event.  Why does that suck?  Check the lineup, its pretty great.  Some of my favourite current (CHVRCHES, Lord Huron, The Darcys, Washed Out) and previous (Broken Social Scene, Interpol) favourite bands  are performing.

Not to mention a reunion show for TO legends The Constantines.

Perhaps I can figure out a way to do both?  Last year, a die hard Zeus fan on my ride team did just that.  He biked to Hamilton in record time (120km or so), got a lift back to Toronto.  Attended Field Trip and no doubt partied all night.  The next morning, he got a lift to Hamilton, only to to get back on the bike and ride 100km to Toronto as part of the event.  I guess I should start training for that.

Today, I’d like to point your attention to the Field Trip Discovery Series; “a new music and artist patronage program intent on identifying and supporting interesting and developing artists and presenting them to new audiences”.  Pitchfork recently premiered their first feature, River Tiber‘s amazing “Atlantis”.  Since the end of last year hearing “The Star Falls”, I’ve been loving what I’ve been hearing from Toronto’s Tommy Paxton-Beesley.  Check it out.
