LISTEN: “The Other Side” by NVDES

Every once in a while you find a track that you can’t stop repeating. Case in point, “The Other Side” from Los Angeles project NVDES.  The song draws influence from NY No Wave and the film Downtown 81 and is the second offering from NVDES‘ AA-side 7″ single out today via B3SCI Records.

NVDES is a creative collective curated, produced and co-performed by Josh Ocean. The project’s recurring symbol, a cantaloupe, embodies its spirit of self-discovery, free experimentation, and an unrestrained indulgence in the juicy, ripe fruit of pop music.  Ocean says “The Other Side is based on a fling with a girl who liked to dress me up in some of her clothes before we would hook up. This song is an attempt to capture the strange and the fun that went along with it.”

“The Other Side” along with earlier singles “Unforgettable,” “Fela,” and “Don’t Fvck Your Neighbor” are a cornucopia of voices from Ocean and his friends, a kaleidoscope of sounds, both acoustic and digital, spinning through traditional song forms and electronic collage.  The blogs have definitely taken to that, featuring NVDES across both Hype Machine and Spotify Viral charts.

NVDES played his debut shows this February in a small Euro run including a support slot for Baio (Vampire Weekend) and he will play a DJ Set at a Kitsune event in LA later this month:

Wed, 4.20 // Los Angeles @ Ace Hotel DTLA (Kitsune Rooftop Party) (DJ SET)
