The Ting Tings
I think I’m pretty late hearing about this band, they seem to be pretty damn huge in the UK. I’m talking about The Ting Tings. They’re an English pop duo comprised of Jules De Martino (drums, vocals) and Katie White (vocals, guitar, bass drum), both from an artists/musicians commune called The Islington Mill.
I first heard That’s Not My Name and loved it. Head to ear farm to download it or jump to their myspace page. Very Gossip-y indeed. Going to need to hear more songs before I think its the next big thing….
here it is live.

All The Pictures
Another surprise in the inbox the other day. An e-mail from Joe Snape about his bedroom one man music-making project All The Pictures. He sits in a dimly lit suburban home, pumping out clever mini-indie masterpieces. Possibly balancing on folktronica, his songs sit somewhere between electronica, folk and pop.
Check out Catherine of Aragon off his debut full length ‘I Have A Brother‘. More on his myspace page. Can anyone hear Sufjan singing Postal Service?
Wolf. American Gladiator
The writer’s strike has its pros and cons.
Part of me wants the two sides to agree so that shows will start airing new episodes, thus allowing me to have more opportunity to pitch songs to those shows. On the other side, when there are no writers, there are gladiators.
Yeah, its back.
I watched the premier last night. F’ing awesome!! New Gladiators, new events, more bling. Maybe a little too much script (you’d think there would be less) and propaganda. Either way, I found myself completely wondering what kind of world produces a maniac like Don ‘Hollywood’ Yates (known as Wolf) and cheering for some tiny kid name ‘Moly’.
Do yourself a favor. Meet the men gladiators. Hilarious.
Les Savy Fav – Tube out the Jams…
Ok, so I’m a Les Savy Fav fan. Accepting that I am biased, please read the rest of this and check them out for yourselves.
The band recently released their 6th album in 10 years, Let’s Stay Friends. They’ve been around since ’95 when they all met at the Rhode Island School of Design. They play heavier indie-rock with a touch of dance punk and post-hardcore edge. Front man Tim Harrington is an interesting scene on stage… just picture a large bearded fellow prancing around in a wide variety of costumes (or no costume), occasionally kissing audience members between vocals.
Recently they’ve been running a YouTube contest for user submitted videos for the track The Equestrian. You can see and hear the most viewed entry below. I think my girlfriend will appreciate the obvious homage to My Little Pony. I’d recommend that you also check out the band’s MySpace site to listen to What Would Wolves Do? and their old single The Sweat Descends (which you can download here).
