I had to trim a few from the list, but what’s left, is the cream of the crop from the blogs last month. Have you heard “Already Love” by Great Good Fine Ok?

I use a saved folder in my e-mail like a staging area for what tracks will end up on the blog, which sometimes is absolutely barren, or completely full of music to post (like this week). Ideally, I’d love to have a comprise of the two, which a handful of songs/videos to post at any one time, but I guess its good to have choices.

This track fell to the bottom of the pile and I missed the opportunity to post it last week, before their Toronto show too, which happened last night. Bummer. Hopeful the crowd enjoyed the synth-pop duo’s slick single “Already Love” among others. Over soft synths and a bouncing rhythm, the track’s melody serves as a whisper of tender affection, as lead signer Jon Sandler confesses “I know you think that I’m crazy, ‘cause I can’t stop calling you baby,” admitting that what he feels is “already love.”

It’s a bit sad to think that this might be the last month I post a monthly playlist on Rdio, as the service has announced its closing. Of the multiple online platforms I use, Rdio was my favourite and will be missed here at Indie Music Filter. Good thing I’m making these playlists on Soundcloud and Spotify as well. Maybe I’ll bring back Youtube too.

This month’s playlist is an eclectic mix featuring some gems (from bands Wild Ones, St. Lucia, Beach House), collaborations (Ra Ra Riot and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam, j.viewz and Milosh, RAC and Filous) and covers (Great Good Fine OK and Panama Wedding doing “Easy Lover”).

LISTEN: “Easy Lover” by Great Good Fine OK & Panama Wedding (Phil Collins & Philip Bailey Cover)

That might have been the fastest I’ve ever posted a track, from receiving it in my inbox minutes ago, to featuring right here. Two of New York’s finest synth-pop bands Great Good Fine Ok and Panama Wedding have teamed up to create a shimmery cover of Philip Bailey and Phil Collins’ 1984 smash “Easy Lover.”

“In a lot of ways its the perfect cover for us to do together, because Peter and Jon’s voices work really well singing Phil and Philip’s parts,” Luke Moellman says. “I wanted to keep the drive and intensity of the original but put it in a more modern sonic context. The production ended up sounding like a French electro-house-meets-Dr. Luke spin on the original.”
