Have you heard the latest from Local Natives? This was another piece of news I missed while in LA the week before last. Better late than never. Looking forward to the upcoming release of Hummingbird, out January 28th, 2013 via Frenchkiss/Infectious. Hope it all sounds like Breakers, beautiful “dizzying blend of euphoric harmony“.
While surfing the store for Chicago’s Delicious Design League, I had this familiar feeling that I’d seen these prints before. Turns out I purchased the above Metric poster for my brother a few years back at SXSW, so I probably even met either Jason Teegarden-Downs and/or Billy Baumann, the two friends who formed Delicious Design League in 2006. The company started as a hobby for the two (who work in the design and ad biz) but grew into a full-time design and illustration studio.
Check out some great examples in the store.
Air Review are a band that just took over my radar. This Dallas quintet played they’re first show in May of 2009 and haven’t looked back since, garnering two thumbs up from the blogosphere. I’d like to add a third. Their forthcoming EP, America’s Son, features their latest single “Low Wishes” or my favourite, the title track “America’s Son“. Former reminds me of Elliott Smith, the latter has moments Local Natives with an “Keep The Car Running” Arcade Fire chugging beat. (not sure if that even make sense but good enough for me).
Its been a couple days away from the blog, sorry for the dust thats started to collect on the site. I spent my long weekend in Montreal and Montebello for a wedding of one of my best friends. Amazing time, minimal internet access.
Here’s what I’ve been hearing:
–Dinosaur Bones did an awesome session with Wood & Wires, check out “Ice Hotels”

–Friends With Both Arms posted the new Memoryhouse video for “Caregiver”. The band are one of the many great artists playing the SXSW Silver Series, a busking-style event run by Invisible Children to raise awareness for the 25th year of war in East Africa.
–Wolf Gang does an amazing cover of Radiohead’s “Pyramid Song”.

–Lykke Li’s new album is streaming at Hype Machine.
–Local Natives perform on NPR’s tiny desk.
–MOKB introduces us to new band Wild Palms.
–Tympanogram features a band I’m really liking right now, Expensive Looks.
–Head to Soundcloud to hear Altrice’s take on Caribou’s album Swim. Remember that contest to remix Caribou’s record? Altrice took top honours.
